Natural Energy

Nonstop marketing has caused energy drinks like Red Bull and Monster to be the first thing most people think of when they hit an afternoon slump or need a pre-workout boost. But the canned stimulants can wreck havoc on your health. There’s a lot of unhealthy ingredients in them including artificial flavors and colorings, excessive levels of caffeine, and tons of excess sugar—not to mention stimulants you’ve never heard of that have barely been tested.

Consider the numerous reports you hear about deaths and cardiac complications associated with energy drink consumption. Monster Energy is linked to five deaths and 5 Hour Energy is linked to thirteen deaths according to reports from the FDA. This is extremely concerning. Energy drinks lead your body through an abnormal chain of events such as a blood pressure spike from caffeine, raised blood glucose by 20-30%, risk of blood clots due to abnormal platelet activity and finally, the familiar ‘crash’ from blood glucose levels finally returning to a more normal level. I would like to introduce a natural alternative to energy drinks called Yerba Mate.

Yerba Mate is a natural tree grown in the tropical rain forests of South America. The leaves and branches have traditionally been ground up and made into tea for thousands of years. The leaves naturally contain 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, and abundant antioxidants making it one of the most nutrient-dense plants on earth. All of the different health benefits of the plant stem from the abundant vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants naturally found inside.

Yerba mate is well known for providing an energy boost that’s been described as gentle, clean, and calm. Compared to the other most commonly used stimulants in the world such as coffee, tea, and other energy drinks, yerba mate reportedly delivers the most balanced energy boost. Yerba mate drinkers experience a state of alert wakefulness similar to that of coffee, but without coffee’s side effects. It rarely interferes with sleep and doesn’t cause caffeine jitters. Athletes use it to enhance physical performance. It’s useful for people suffering from mental or physical fatigue, or from chronic fatigue syndrome.

In conclusion, we always encourage you that when seeking a “shot in the arm” for that morning or afternoon pick-me-up, seek something that is found in nature, not made in a lab.
